For the first time ever in FIFA World Cup™ history, Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology was introduced in order to help referees make informed decisions on close calls. The use of the VAR was successful in addressing controversy and ensuring fairness.

On the best team front, the tournament saw the brilliant French team perform impressively on the pitch. Led by captain Hugo Lloris, the French dominated their way to the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ by dispatching Argentina, Uruguay and Belgium. To the surprise of many, France’s Kylian Mbappé was awarded the Best Young Player of the tournament for his exceptional performances.

It was an exciting tournament of epic proportions, with an abundance of drama and unforgettable moments. The tournament came to a fitting close with the spectacular, firework-filled, closing ceremony in the Luzhniki Stadium. As the curtain fell on these epic four weeks, it was with hailing cheers that France were announced the victors and crowned champions of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™. They will now carry the honor of having been judged the best team in the world.
